MIASTOmovie is a long-term project that we are developing as the Wrocław Film Foundation. Our activities are devoted to urban issues, drawing on the areas of social, cultural, economic, and design activities.

MIASTOmovie is a discussion platform – a meeting place for various actors involved in urban transformation processes: architects, urban planners, officials, activists, researchers, analysts, and – above all – the residents of our cities. Through interdisciplinary cultural and social activities, we initiate reflection on urbanity.

The highlight of our initiative is the City and Architecture Film Festival, which takes place every year at the end of September and beginning of October. In addition, we support other events, usually in partnership with local organizations, both in Wrocław and in other smaller and larger cities in Poland.

Since 2014, we have been organizing a five-day festival in Wrocław, based on film screenings at the Nowe Horyzonty Cinema – mainly documentaries, but occasionally also feature films. Each year, we choose a different theme around which we build the program. So far, these have been: Recycled City, City ID, Neighborhood, Street, Public Architecture, Big Plans, Solstice, A Matter of Taste, Imperfections, Professions, Curses and Charms.

The film screenings are accompanied by discussions, talks, Q&A sessions, and lectures. The festival program also includes other activities in Wrocław – workshops, presentations, debates on books, research, reports, and walks. As part of the artistic scene, we organize exhibitions, and under the banner of the social scene, we organize less formal events, music, and entertainment. Starting in 2022, the festival will be preceded by an open call, during which anyone can submit their own idea for an event that complements the program and corresponds to the theme we have announced. Each year, the festival features approximately 25 events. At each edition, we show 4 to 7 Polish premieres.

Our festival is the only film event in Poland focused on urban and architectural themes. Over the past 12 years, our partners have included (and in most cases still include): Kino Nowe Horyzonty, the Municipality of Wrocław, the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning, the Visegrad Fund, OKRE Development, the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, Sarp Wrocław, Sarp Poznań, Global Worth, the European Parliament Office in Wrocław, the German Consulate General in Wrocław, the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation, the OP ENHEIM Foundation, the Ładne Historie Foundation, the AntyRama Foundation, the Akcja Miasto Association, the Tymoteusz Karpowicz Foundation, the EkoRozwoju Foundation, BWA Wrocław – Contemporary Art Gallery, Wrocław Institute of Culture, Wrocław Center for Social Development, Wrocław Contemporary Museum, Czwórka Polskie Radio, Radio Wrocław, Radio Ram, TVP Kultura, TVP Wrocław, Gazeta Wyborcza, Magazyn Miasta, Architektura Murator.

MIASTOmovie partners with events on urban topics or those touching on issues related to the development and functioning of cities.

We organize discussions on urban and architectural books, and we are partners in workshops and walking tours. Members of our MIASTO team participate in numerous discussions and serve as mentors during workshops. Exhibitions created as part of our artistic scene are presented as guests in various exhibition spaces throughout Poland.

We are happy to cooperate.

If you want to learn more about MIASTOmovie and involve us in any activities, please write to: info@miastomovie.pl

So far, we have participated in events such as the A<Festival and the FILM + MIASTO series in Katowice, the Lower Silesian Architecture Festival (DOFA) in Wrocław, the Przemiany Festival in Warsaw, Miastoprojekcje at the City Culture Institute in Gdańsk, and the ZODIAK Architecture Pavilion in Warsaw.

We regularly hold screenings accompanied by meetings and discussions in other cities as well.

Since MIASTOmovie was founded, we have visited Bydgoszcz, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Gdynia, Gliwice, Katowice, Koszalin, Krakow, Łódź, Poznań, Szczecin, and Zakopane many times. Our offer includes several documentary films – it is thanks to us that they have entered the Polish market, often being presented for the first time at one of the festival editions.

If you are looking for a documentary film on urban and architectural topics, please contact us at: info@miastomovie.pl

We cooperate on individual screenings and entire series (we make selections based on subject matter and available finances). We also help to obtain films that have not yet been distributed in Poland (we look for a distributor, obtain licenses, prepare Polish dialogue tracks along with copies) and prepare lectures, program discussions, lectures, and other events accompanying the films.

Become a volunteer for the the MIASTOmovie festival!

We recruit volunteers approximately six weeks before the festival.

As volunteers, you will have the opportunity to see how the MIASTOmovie festival is organised: meet our guests and visitors, help us produce events in and outside the cinema, and support us during film screenings.

If you are interested in collaborating on other MIASTOmovie activities, please contact us at: info@miastomovie.pl. We will see what we can do together.
